Kurt Rosenwinkel Plays Solo Piano / Chopin Double Bill

Kurt Rosenwinkel Solo Piano
Kurt Rosenwinkel (guitar) // Jean-Paul Brodbeck (piano) // Lukas Traxel (bass) // Jorge Rossy (drums),

This unique program unites two great projects of piano music : a jazz guitar legend performing his repertoire on the piano and a jazz quartet performing the music of Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849).

Kurt Rosenwinkel is acclaimed as one of the finest jazz guitarists of his generation, but many might not know that he is also an accomplished pianist. Kurt Rosenwinkel Plays Piano is an album of original compositions written and performed on the piano by the artist. Some songs have been recorded and performed before, and will be familiar to fans of Kurt’s music. Listeners are afforded a glimpse into Kurt Rosenwinkel’s long relationship with the piano, as well as rare insight into his probing compositional mind.

Frédéric Chopin was the first composer of genius to devote himself uniquely to the piano. In this project Chopins songs are played in a classical jazz quartet formation. All the songs were arranged by the Swiss piano player Jean-Paul Brodbeck. For this endeavor, Rosenwinkel and Brodbeck are joined by masterful European players: bassist Lukas Traxel and drummer Jorge Rossy. The four musicians combine the dynamic spectre of classical interpretation with the rhythmic experience of a modern quartet.
